17th August 2015

Cyclocross is one of the fastest growing sectors in the bike industry and Yakima has had a rich history in the United States with the discipline. We’ve been a constant at “Cross Vegas” America’s biggest CX event.  So on August 2nd Yakima Australia decided to go along to the Queensland State Cyclocross Championships 2015 at the Nundah Circuit track in Brisbane to show our support!

And what a great day it was! Cyclocross is definitely one of the more exciting disciplines with a majority of the course in your view from the sideline. The course was made up of cross country, bitumen, a muddy creek crossing and an obstacle section.

Despite no preparation in the lead up, Robbie Mckewen, regular Tour De France contender took home the Queensland male Champion prize while Imogen Smith became the female Champion.

The Yakima YAK had his first appearance and spent his time handing out stickers, cheering people on the sideline with a cowbell and getting photos with all of the kids at the event.

We gained a significant amount of interest from spectators for the HoldUp and the Highroller and even managed to make someone’s day by donating a Highroller to give away at the presentations.

Overall a really great day and definitely a niche category in Australia that will be seeing more of Yakima in the future!

The State Championships were also round 2 of the SRAM Series for Queensland Cyclocross. There are two rounds left in the SRAM series, this weekend 16 August at Nerang on the Gold Coast, and 30th August back at Nundah.
