Yakima Australia today announced their acquisition of European enterprise Cykell’s user-friendly premium rear-of-car bicycle carriers.

Cykell (meaning bicycle in Swedish) is a relative newcomer to the bicycle carrier market having launched its range in Europe in early 2013. Since then it has grown rapidly and become a household name with a strong reputation for quality and user friendliness.

Yakima Australia CEO Stefan Krueger said the acquisition of Cykell would be an excellent expansion of their current product range, increasing the company’s premium offering for cycling enthusiasts.

“We were looking for a clever, intuitive, high quality and user-friendly system with strong IP protection; the Cykell ‘Just Click’ carriers tick all of those boxes.”

“A huge plus of this transaction has been that we have secured a long-term relationship with the founder and brains behind the Cykell carriers, Philip Sagaert, Philip's knowledge of the industry and understanding of what makes a successful product will prove invaluable to us in the future,” said Mr Krueger.

The range is centred around the T21 and T31 Just Click carriers designed to mount effortlessly onto a vehicle's tow ball and carry two or three bikes (including e-bikes) respectively, with the option of adding a 'plus one' to each carrier for an additional bike.

The announcement underpins Yakima’s future growth strategy while also expanding their premium product range for the international market.

“This exciting acquisition demonstrates Yakima’s commitment and passion for being market leaders and delivering the best products for our customers.”

The ‘Just click’ bicycle rack easily slips onto the tow ball and clicks from red to green when installed safely. This user-centric approach and focus on safety are a perfect fit with Yakima’s brand philosophy.

Yakima’s versatile range is easy-to-use and transports gear such as bikes, kayaks, skis, cargo, and camping equipment; safely and simply.

The ‘Just click’ bicycle rack will be available for the first time in Australia under Yakima’s premium Whispbar brand in the second half of 2016.
