5 BEST MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS IN AUSTRALIA

Australia isn’t all just cities and beaches. Australia is full of mountains and hills, which makes for the perfect terrain for mountain bike riding. There’s a ton of trails in each state, and each cyclist will have their personal favourite. But we’ve narrowed it down to five awesome trails and parks we think you should check out.

BIG HILL MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK, VICTORIA

Take some time out from the city and check out Big Hill Mountain Bike Park. It is regarded as one of the iconic mountain bike trail networks in Australia. You’ll find the park in Mount Beauty, tucked away in Victoria’s north east. Here you can find a range of trails, no matter if you’re a beginner or expert.

It also includes a network of cross country trails, that will take you through forests, the National Parks and High Plains. You can enjoy a solid few hours cycling on this park.

When you’re finishing hitting up the park for the day, it’s only a few hundred meter ride to the main centreer of town.

STROMLO FOREST PARK, AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

When you think of the ACT, you normally think of politicians. The ACT also has great mountain bike areas, including Stromlo Forest Park. The park is right on Canberra’s doorstep, and only a 15-minute drive from the city centre. This park is a favourite for mountain bikers, as well as road cyclists and BMX riders of all abilities.

OURIMBAH STATE FOREST, NEW SOUTH WALES

Located in the Watagan mountain range on the NSW Central Coast, Ourimbah State Forest is full of activities, and includes a dedicated mountain bike track. The forest has a tonne of single track and fire trails for you to explore. There’s a downhill course, which you will find 200 vertical meters above the car park. There’s also tracks named The Valley, Jurassic Park, Roller Coaster and Demtel Hill, so you know this forest is going to be fun.

STURT GORGE RECREATION PARK, SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Adelaide isn’t only churches! There’s also some mountain bike trails for you to check out. About a 30-minute drive from Adelaide CBD, Sturt Gorge Recreation Park has over 40 kilometres of single track ready for you to explore. These tracks were purpose built by Parks SA just for mountain bike riders, walkers and horse riders. A good place to start is Craigburn Farm before checking out the other tracks Sturt Gorge Recreation Park has to offer.

TEWANTIN NATIONAL PARK, QUEENSLAND

Tewantin National Park, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, has a range of single track rides just waiting for you to ride. Popular tracks include Milkmaid, Snake and Bloodwood, Quoll and Froglett and Secrets. The park is full of eucalypt, pine and sub-tropical bush for an ever changing scenery for you to ride through. Start with the tracks around the Wooroi Day Use Area, which features single track rides.

Once you’re done on the track, it’s only a 22-minute drive to the beach at Noosa, where you can relax after a busy day of cycling.
